STERLING TRUCK RESEARCH
Core conventional and special-application families with dated evidence and configuration limits.
Highway and heavy-duty conventional
Sterling's A-Line carried the Ford AeroMax/HN80 highway lineage into the new brand, using 113- and 122-inch BBC identities and a broad day-cab and sleeper programme.
101-inch vocational and distribution conventional
The L7500 is the 101-inch member of Sterling's Ford Louisville/HN80-derived L-Line, serving truck and tractor applications across early and late technical eras.
Mid-heavy vocational conventional
The L8500 spans documented 111- and 113-inch BBC identities. Late terminology can place a 111-inch configuration in Set-Forward context and a 113-inch configuration in Set-Back context; neither label describes every L8500.
Heavy vocational and tractor conventional
Sterling's L9500 is a broad heavy-duty family with 101-, 111-, 113- and 122-inch BBC codes, truck and tractor roles, and both Set-Forward and Set-Back late configurations.
L-Line-derived factory car-hauler identity
LC is both a factory-recognized Sterling model identity and an L-Line-derived special-application architecture. Its low carrier packaging should not be reduced to a generic L9500 body style.
Medium-duty through Class 8 conventional
Acterra was Sterling's 106-inch-BBC conventional family, spanning medium-duty and Class 8 work in truck and tractor configurations. Its family chronology is broader than the verified endpoint of any one M-code.
Low-forward Class 6–8 truck and tractor family
Sterling Cargo carried Ford's cab-over design onto Freightliner Business Class chassis architecture. SC6000, SC7000 and SC8000 share the core cab identity while retaining different class, GVWR and production evidence.
68-inch-BBC severe-vocational low-cab-forward
Condor was a shared Freightliner/Sterling low-cab-forward vocational platform with American LaFrance development and manufacturing at its core. Sales badge, physical manufacturer, WMI and model year must be read separately.
Class 3–5 compact cab-over work truck
The Sterling 360 is a Sterling-badged Mitsubishi Fuso Canter/FE-platform truck built in Kawasaki, Japan. The sales badge, underlying manufacturer, platform and JLS VIN identity must remain separate.
Class 4/5 vocational chassis cab
Sterling Bullet was a Sterling-badged Chrysler/Dodge Ram 4500/5500 chassis-cab programme built by Chrysler de Mexico at Saltillo. It was not an independently engineered Sterling chassis or a factory pickup line.
Factory-recognized specialty tow and recreational derivative
Sterling 6500 SportChassis is a factory-recognized Acterra-based special derivative completed within the Freightliner Specialty Vehicles/SportChassis programme. It is neither a separate clean-sheet chassis nor merely an aftermarket nickname.
Historical/reference Sterling COE programme
Sterling factory literature recognizes Atego 6500, 7500 and 8500 identities, and contemporary reporting documents a North-Americanized Mercedes-Benz Atego programme prepared for Sterling badging. Launch was on hold, and current evidence does not establish a normal continuous dealer-series production history.
